Applications for Oxford's Cleavers
PM Fiber The HSTC-2001, AFC-2008 and HSAFC-2008 will all cleave polarisation maintaining fiber. Perpendicular cleaves are mirror-smooth and crack-free. The PM stress rods do not significantly reduce the quality of the cleave. Angled cleaves are mirror-smooth. With the PM orientation such that the stress rods are different lengths, cracks appear on the outside of the stress members, approximately 30um from the core. The angle of the cleaved end changes by up to 1 degree in the region of the stressed core. |

Coupler Cleaver
1 x 2 couplers require one of the legs of a 2 x 2 coupler to be cleaved off with a low reflection termination. The HSAFC-2012/Coupler cleaver angle cleaves SM fiber with a 12 degree end angle at a distance 3mm from the end of the coupler body. The expected back-reflection is approximately -70dB. |

Ferrule Cleaver
Oxford can modify the HSAFC-2008 angled cleaver to produce an 8 degree angled cleave 0.5mm from the end of the ferrule. This is useful for pig-tailing fiber to opto-electronic devices. |
